Quantum Technology Sciences President Mark Tinker, PhD gave a technical presentation on The Evolution of Seismic Sensing for Security and Surveillance Applications during ASIS 2013 in Chicago.

The presentation addressed whether monitoring the earth for earthquake and natural hazards or nuclear explosions, operational seismic data centers help keep us safe. At local scales, far more sophisticated than everyday geophone-associated techniques or simple fiber optics, today’s sensors and algorithmic analysis capabilities enable tactical seismic monitoring to truly be voice recognition for the earth, providing the “ears” to complement, augment, and sometimes replace the security and surveillance “eyes” provided by radars, cameras, and other visual sensing and processing systems. This presentation provided expert insight into the past, concluding with the latest state-of-the-art in operational seismic monitoring systems.
